Contract set to expire in summer 2025; renewal likely
Local media “1-year option exercised” “New contract signed”
Tottenham Hotspur’s
Captain in the English Premier League (EPL), Son Heung-min, could be set to re-sign with the club.
“Tottenham are looking to trigger Son’s contract option to avoid a repeat of the Harry Kane situation,” 스포
츠토토 The Telegraph reported on Wednesday (Aug. 22).
Kane was Tottenham’s main striker until last season. He had been a staple of the team since the youth
ranks, but left for German giants Bayern Munich at the start of the 2023-2024 season.
Tottenham had no intention of letting Kane go. However, with Kane’s contract expiring in the summer of
2024, they finally allowed him to leave to avoid losing him to free agency without a transfer fee.
Tottenham will reportedly exercise the option to extend Son’s contract to avoid losing him in the same
way. “Son’s contract expires in the summer of 2025, 토토 but he is understood to have an option to extend
it for at least another year,” the outlet said.
If the report is correct, Son’s contract includes an option to extend, which would allow him to play for Tottenham until at least 2026.
Sports outlet 90min recently reported that “Tottenham are looking to tie captain Son Heung-min to a new
contract. An agreement is expected to be reached before Christmas.”
While the details vary from outlet to outlet, it’s clear that Tottenham are looking to extend Son’s stay with
the club, which is in line with the general industry trend of re-signing players 18 months before their contracts expire.
Son
Has fit in perfectly as captain under new manager Enze Postecoglou, and has been instrumental in the
team’s unbeaten start to the season (4 wins, 1 draw).
If media reports are to be believed, Heung-min could add to his Tottenham record book.
Since joining Tottenham from Leverkusen in 2015, Son has not only scored the 100th goal in EPL history, but
he also became the first Asian player to lead the EPL in goals in the 2021-2022 season.
He has continued to showcase his goal-scoring prowess, ranking sixth in Spurs’ all-time goalscoring
record, and this season he was named captain, becoming the first non-European player to captain
Spurs in the club’s 141-year history. 스포츠토토링크
