The league race is back on for Tottenham Hotspur. Ahead of the match, head coach Enze Postecoglou held a pre-match press conference to discuss the squad and transfer market.
Tottenham will face Brentford in the 22nd round of the 2023-24 Premier League (PL) season at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England, on Feb. 1 at 4:30 a.m. ET. Tottenham is fifth in the league with 12 wins, four draws, and five losses (40 points), while Brentford is 14th in the league with six wins, four draws, and 10 losses (22 points).
Postecoglou took part in a pre-match press conference on Tuesday. The first question was about the winter transfer window. Tottenham brought in Timo Werner and Radu Dragucin in the winter transfer window. They are still being linked with a central midfielder. Postecoglou said, “Unfortunately, I have nothing to say. I don’t get involved in such things,” he said.
There was some good news for Tottenham. One of the players who was sent off will be back in the squad. Sarr played for Senegal at the 2023 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, but after a 1-1 draw with the Ivory Coast in the round of 16, he went down on his knees in a 4-5 penalty shootout loss. He would eventually make a comeback.
Postecoglou said of Sarr: “The latest I heard is that he will return on the 31st. It’s disappointing for him and for Senegal. For us, he is a key player and if he comes back, he will be available for the Everton game on the 3rd.”
However, injured players are still not back. Manor Solomon, Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon remain on the injury list. “Solomon has had a couple setbacks,” Postecoglou said. He had one this week and we have to evaluate him again,” said Postecoglou.
Finally, there was a question about Dragucin’s availability for selection. Spurs brought in Dragucin to bolster their defense after injuries to Micky van der Penne and Christian Romero. Coincidentally, van der Penn and Romero returned from injury shortly after Dragucin joined Spurs.
He made his debut. Dragucin made his debut as a substitute against Manchester United on October 15. On the possibility of starting Dragucin, Postecoglou said, “I don’t know. We try to win games, that’s my focus. We will put out a squad that can win the game.”
