KIA had a chance to pull within a run in the bottom of the fifth with back-to-back singles by Park Chan-ho and Lee Chang-jin, but Ko Jong-wook struck out Song Myung-ki to end the threat. In the sixth inning, NC sent Koo Chang-mo to the mound to solidify the win. Koo seemed to be cruising as he retired the side in order in the sixth and seventh innings.

However, he ran into trouble in the eighth inning. After striking out the leadoff batter, Park Chan-ho, Koo gave up an infield single to Lee Chang-jin and a walk to Kim Ho-ryung to load the bases. Facing Kim Do-young, Koo fouled off two consecutive forked balls to get a favorable pitch count. But after three pitches and a 132-kilometer slider, Koo abruptly retreated to the back of the mound, where he was checked by trainers and coaches. He had a look of disappointment on his face. NC bounced back from a 4-6 loss to KIA on the 26th to improve to 69-2 and 56-56 on the season. KIA was held scoreless in the first inning as starter Mario Sanchez gave up back-to-back runs in the first and second innings. KIA is now 62-2 and 62-2.
The two teams will play the second game of the doubleheader at the same venue. Lee Yi-ri will start for KIA and Tanner Telli for NC.
