South Korea’s mixed medley relay team finished third at the Hangzhou Asian Games. With two more medals in one day, Hwang Sun-woo, 20, became the first Korean swimmer since Park Tae-hwan to win five medals at a single Asian Games. South Korea sent Lee Eun-ji (17, Bangsan Province), Choi Dong-yeol (24, Gangwon Province), Kim Seo-young (29, North Gyeongsang Province) and Hwang Sun-woo (20, Gangwon Province) to the 400-meter medley relay final at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games on Sunday at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, where they finished third in 3:46.78.They broke the Korean record of 3:47.09 set by Lee Eun-ji, Choi Dong-yeol, Kim Young-beom (17-Gangwon Cheego) and Heo Yeon-kyung (17-Bangsan-go) at the Fukuoka World Championships in July by 0.31 seconds. They were not able to beat the Asian record of 3:37.73 set by China (Xu Zhai, Qin Haiyang, Zhang Yufei, Yang Junxuan) and Japan (Ryosuke Irie, Yuya Hinomoto, Ai Soma, Nagisa Ikemoto), but they did not miss out on a medal. Hwang Sun-woo, who had won gold in the men’s 200-meter freestyle about an hour earlier, was the last swimmer of the day to secure his fifth individual medal. After winning one medal a day – the 100-meter freestyle (third) on Thursday, the men’s 800-meter freestyle relay (first) on Friday and the men’s 400-meter medley relay (second) on Saturday – Hwang added two more on Sunday, bringing his medal tally at the Games to five .Hwang is only the second South Korean swimmer ever to win five or more medals at a single event, joining Park Tae-hwan. Park won seven medals (14 total) in Doha in 2006 and Guangzhou in 2010.Lee Eun-ji, Choi Dong-yeol, and Kim Seo-young, who have already won individual medals, added one each.
