He’s out on loan from Manchester United, but he’s in high demand.
According to Spanish outlet As, several Premier League (PL) clubs are keeping tabs on Mason Greenwood.
Several PL clubs reportedly sent scouts to check on Greenwood during the recent Getafe-Almeria match.
Greenwood is a former Manchester United youth product. He was promoted to the first team after impressing and was touted as a promising youngster. However, trouble brewed in his personal life.
Greenwood was under police investigation for alleged sexual offenses. A woman, allegedly his girlfriend, posted photos and videos on social media alleging that he sexually assaulted her.
Greenwood was subsequently arrested and questioned by police. The club suspended him from training and matches until the case was resolved.
Greenwood was recently found not guilty by a court after the charges were dropped. This clears the way for his return to the club.
Greenwood reportedly met with his teammates and pleaded with them to help him get back on the field now that he’s been cleared.
However, the strong sentiment against the inclusion of a player with a criminal record has left the club in a quandary and they have launched their own investigation.
United said through official channels, “We have concluded our internal investigation into Mr. Greenwood. After analyzing the evidence, we have concluded that no crime was committed. However, mistakes were made and he must take responsibility for them,” the club said in a statement.
“We have mutually agreed that it is appropriate for me to leave Manchester United,” the statement continued.
However, it’s not a complete departure. He still has some time left on his contract, and the club is keen to cash in on his loan.
Greenwood was sent out on loan to Getafe in Spain due to a lack of playing time at Manchester United.
Greenwood has been consistently getting chances and is a key player for Getafe. His stats aren’t bad either. He has two goals and three assists in his last 10 games, making his presence felt.
Getafe are enamored with Greenwood’s presence. They want to extend his stay.
At the same time, PL clubs are showing interest in Greenwood. They are attracted to the fact that he already has experience, so he doesn’t need to adapt and can be utilized immediately.
