Holland named BBC World Sports Personality of the Year

English professional soccer’s Manchester City striker Elling Holland (23-Norway) has been named World Sports Star of the Year by the British public broadcaster BBC.
The BBC announced on Tuesday (Nov. 20) that it has named Holland the 2023 World Sports Star of the Year after a vote of its readers.
Holland scored 36 goals on his debut in the English Premier League (EPL) in the 2022-2023 season, breaking the record for most goals in a single season.

He went on to score a whopping 52 goals in 50 official matches, including league games, establishing himself as one of the world’s top ‘goalscorers’.

He helped City complete the “triple” by winning the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, and English Football Association (FA) Cup.
Holland set the EPL record for 50 goals in the fewest games (48) in history this season and is the league’s top scorer with 14 goals.
Holland tops the list ahead of Siya Kolisi (No. 2), who became the first black man to captain the South African national rugby team and led them to back-to-back Rugby World Cups, and Max Verstappen (Netherlands-3), who broke the record for most wins in a season in Formula One (F1) with 19 this season. 카지노사이트

Other nominees include American “gymnastics queen” Simone Biles, Aitana Bonmati, who won the Ballon d’Or after leading Spain to victory at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, and Novak Djokovic (Serbia), who has been ranked No. 1 in the world for 400 weeks, the longest streak in tennis history.
“Thank you for voting me World Sports Star of the Year,” said Holland.

Last season was an amazing year for us, with our European treble,” said Holland.
Each year, Vivisi recognizes a non-British athlete who has made a standout performance on the world stage.

There are no sporting restrictions.

Last year’s winner was Lionel Messi (Argentina), who led his country to victory at the World Cup in Qatar.
