LG and Samsung play to a draw.
The LG Twins and Samsung Lions battled to a 0-0 draw in the second game of the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League season on March 27 at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul, South Korea. The teams battled to a 2-2 tie in 12 extra innings.
The two teams combined for 16 hits and 17 ground balls, but only managed to score four runs. Poor concentration led to the first draw of the season. Samsung left 11 stranded runners, while LG left 15.
Coming off an upset win the day before, LG started Choi Won-tae on the mound. LG manager Yeom Kyung-yup went with the following starting lineup: Park Hae-min (CF), Hong Chang-ki (RF), Kim Hyun-soo (DH), Austin (1B), Oh Ji-hwan (SS), Moon Bo-kyung (3B), Park Dong-won (C), Moon Sung-joo (LF), Shin Min-jae (2B).
Won Tae-in started on the mound for Samsung. Samsung manager Park Jin-man countered with the following lineup: Kim Ji-chan (CF)-Kim Sung-yoon (RF)-Koo Ja-uk (DH)-McKinnon (3B)-Oh Jae-il (1B)-Kang Min-ho (C)-Ryu Ji-hyeok (2B)-Kim Hyun-joon (LF)-Kim Young-woong (SS).
LG was the first team to score. LG scored first in the bottom of the first inning. Leadoff hitter Park Hae-min singled and Kim Hyun-soo followed with a double to right-center field to bring in Park. However, LG was unable to capitalize on Austin’s hit, as a straight hit by Oh Ji-hwan turned into a double play with runners on first and third.
Samsung tied the game in the top of the third. Leadoff hitter Kim Sung-yoon reached on an error, stole second, and Koo Ja-uk singled to send Kim to third. McKinnon then drove in Kim with a ground ball to tie the game.
Samsung turned the game around in the top of the fifth inning. Kim Ji-chan led off with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kim Sung-yoon, and Koo Ja-rook drew a walk. With runners on first and second, McKinnon singled through the left side to bring in Kim.
LG tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Leadoff hitter Oh Ji-hwan led off with a double and advanced to third on a single by Moon Bo-kyung. Park Dong-won walked, but two batters later, Moon Sung-joo singled to bring in Oh.
LG had a golden opportunity in the bottom of the eighth, but failed to capitalize. Moon Bo-kyung led off with a single. Park Dong-won failed to bunt, but pinch-hitter Choi Seung-min stole second and Moon Sung-joo drew a walk to put runners on first and second. However, Shin Min-jae struck out and Park Hae-min grounded out to end the game.
The game headed to extra innings. LG had runners on second and third in the bottom of the 11th inning, but Kim Hyun-soo was stranded on second base. Samsung had runners on first and second with one out in the top of the 12th after Kim Sung-yoon struck out and Koo Ja-uk singled, but McKinnon recorded a double play.
In the bottom of the 12th, LG put runners on first and second with a single by Oh Ji-hwan, a stolen base, and a walk by Koo Bon-hyuk, but a double steal left runners on 토토사이트 second and third. Park Dong-won drew a walk to load the bases for LG, but Moon Sung-ju struck out to end the game.
LG starter Choi Won-tae allowed two runs (one earned) in 4.2 innings. Despite the low number of runs, he gave up six hits and six walks. Choi was pulled from the game, but the bats saved him from a loss. After Choi Won-tae, Lee Ji-gang pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, Kim Jin-sung pitched one scoreless inning, Yoo Young-chan pitched one scoreless inning, Baek Seung-hyun pitched one scoreless inning, Choi Dong-hwan pitched one scoreless inning, and Lee Woo-chan pitched one scoreless inning.
Samsung starter Won Tae-in pitched five innings of one-run ball. He gave up a lot of hits and was in a lot of trouble, but kept the runs to a minimum. He came off the mound with the win in hand, but the bullpen gave him a no-decision. Kim Tae-hoon, who took the mound after Won Tae-in, was responsible for two outs in the sixth inning and scored a run. Choi Sung-hoon pitched one scoreless inning, Lee Jae-ik pitched 0.1 scoreless inning, Lim Chang-min pitched one scoreless inning, Kim Jae-yoon pitched two scoreless innings, Lee Sang-min pitched one scoreless inning, and Choi Ha-neul pitched one scoreless inning.
