‘Shin Tae-yong Magic’ Indonesia wins 3-0 away to Vietnam → 2nd straight win + final qualification in sight

Shin Tae Yong Ho’s side have moved closer to qualifying for the final round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup North America.

Indonesia, led by head coach Tae Yong Shin, cruised to a 3-0 victory away from home in their fourth match of Group F at the 2026 North American Football Championship Asia Second Qualifying Round at the Midine National Stadium in Hanoi, Vietnam on Saturday (June 26).

Indonesia, who also won the third leg 1-0 at home against Vietnam, moved into second place in Group F with their second straight win over the Vietnamese. With two wins, one draw, and seven points, they have extended their lead over third-place Vietnam to four points. They will need to lose both of their remaining games against Iraq and the Philippines and for 텍사스홀덤 Vietnam to win both to qualify.

Indonesia took control of the game in the ninth minute of the first half, when defender Jay Ijes opened the scoring for Vietnam. Forward Ragnar Oratmangoen added another goal in the 23rd minute to make it 2-0 at halftime.

The second half was a back-and-forth affair. It was a close game until the 11th minute of stoppage time, when the Vietnamese offense was blocked and the lead was preserved. However, Ramadan Sananta scored the winner in the eighth minute of extra time to give Indonesia a comfortable three-goal victory and take another step towards qualification.

The first and last time Indonesia qualified for the World Cup was at the 1938 World Cup in France, when they were the Netherlands East Indies. They have not qualified for the knockout stage since.

At the last World Cup in Qatar 2022, the team participated in the second round of qualifying, but finished last with a disastrous record of one win, one draw, and seven losses.

However, since Shin Tae-yong took over as head coach, the team has been on the rise. He has been in charge of the Indonesian national team since December 2019. Shin has been on a winning streak with the Indonesian national team.

He recently led the team to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) 2023 Asian Cup in Qatar. It was the first time in 16 years that Indonesia had qualified for the tournament since 2007, when they were the hosts.

The team made it clear to Asian teams that they were a force to be reckoned with, beating Vietnam in the group stage and holding Japan to a one-goal victory.

In their first match since the Asian Cup, a 1-0 victory over Vietnam in the third match of the second round of World Cup qualifying, Indonesia continued their momentum with a three-goal away win.

The second round of qualifying features 39 nations competing in nine groups of four teams, with the two best teams from each group advancing to the final round. If their recent form continues, a place in the final round is not out of the question.
