North Korea beat Syria to keep its hopes of advancing

In a rare World Cup qualifier played in a third country, North Korea beat Syria to keep its hopes of advancing to the third round alive.

North Korea defeated Syria 1-0 in the fifth match of Group B of the second Asian qualifying round for the FIFA Confederations Cup North America 2026 at the Xinxin National Stadium in Vientiane, Laos on Saturday (June 6).

With the victory, North Korea closed the gap on second-place Syria (7 points) to one point.
