The Major League Baseball (MLB) Miami Marlins are mired in an eight-game losing streak since opening day.

They are the only team in baseball that has yet to report its first win of the season.

The Marlins scored five runs in the seventh inning to fall 5-8 against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri, on Sunday.

Miami took a 4-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning after Josh Bell hit a two-run double up the middle and Jake Berger followed with a back-to-back home run over the left field fence.

After giving up two runs to St. Louis in the bottom of the fifth, Miami added a run in the top of the sixth on a wild pitch with runners on second and third.

However, Miami gave up five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning as the bullpen collapsed, leaving them down 5-8.

After failing to score in the top of the eighth and ninth innings, Miami fell to St. Louis.

It’s the first time in eight years since the Atlanta Braves and Minnesota Twins in 2016 that a team has lost eight straight games to open the season.

Miami will try to get back on track for its first win of the season on July 7 against St. Louis.
