Tottenham Hotspur manager Enze Postecoglou has said that building team chemistry is more important than spending heavily in the transfer market.
“Postecoglou said he prioritizes team chemistry over big spending when it comes to building his squad,” global sports outlet The Athletic reported on Feb. 2 (KST).
According to The Athletic, Postecoglou was asked if he wanted to spend £1 billion ($1.6142 billion) on players like Chelsea.
To which Postecoglou replied, “Not necessarily.
I’ve always said that I’ve never felt that transfers are just about spending money.
This has been proven time and time again.”
“It has been proven time and time again that spending money constantly to get the best players is not the answer,” Postecoglou added. 바카라사이트
“The answer is to create the right chemistry in the team and squad so that 24 players are committed to one goal.
I don’t think you can do that by buying the 24 best players in the world.
That’s the last thing I want,”
Tottenham and Chelsea have taken different paths this season.
After signing Raheem Sterling, Mikhail Mkhitaryan, and Enzo Fernandes last season, Chelsea has been aggressive in the offseason.
Moises Caicedo, Romelu Lahvi, and others have also donned the Chelsea colors.
Chelsea has invested over £1 billion in the two years since Todd Bowley took over the club.
It’s not like Tottenham haven’t spent money too.
Harry Kane is gone, but James Maddison, Brennan Johnson, and Mickey van der Penn are new additions to the team.
Australian coach Postecoglou, who led Celtic to the Domestic Treble, has taken the reins.
The results so far have been mixed.
Spurs are unbeaten in 10 league games under Postecoglou (8 wins, 2 draws) and lead the league.
Chelsea, who appointed former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, have yet to find their stride as they sit in 11th place with three wins, three draws and four losses.
The two teams will face off at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England on July 7.
